Nordeste

The Council of Nordeste is known as the most florid of the island of Sao Miguel, is characterized by its full natural beauty and lush vegetation, located at the most rugged island, the region reflects the natural magnificence of the island, as is visible in the various viewpoints that are present along the coast, as in Ponta do Sossego, in Ponta da Madrugada, in Tronqueira or in Arnel Lighthouse, among many other special places.

Nordeste also has a fine architectural heritage, with monuments as the Churches Matriz of São Jorge, Nossa Senhora da Luz, or the Ermidas de Nossa Senhora do Rosário of 1529, Our Lady Mother of God (XVI) or São Sebastião, now in ruins, the flagship of the Seven Arches Viaduct or the beautiful building of the City Hall of the nineteenth century.

The region is known for its beautiful gardens, streets and roads taken care of, where flowers appear to bloom at every turn. Agricultural land of long tradition, livestock and fishing, the Nordeste embraces its heritage, keeping it alive, as is visible in the Ethnographic Museum and the House of Labour from the Nordeste, which serves as a central workshop and Handicraft. In fact, the Crafts in Nordeste have always had an important role in several jobs loom, embroidery and lace.
